Johannesburg, April 16: Indian golfers have made a remarkable start at the IGPL Invitational Golf Tournament taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa. After the first day of play, Olympians Uday Mane, Milind Soni, and Manav Shah are tied for the lead, each scoring an impressive 7-under 65, one shot ahead of the competition.
Uday Mane showcased exceptional skill with a bogey-free round. He started strong with a 2-under on the front nine and continued to impress with several birdies on the back nine. His confidence was evident throughout the game. Uday has previously represented India at the Tokyo Olympics. He began the season slowly in Chandigarh but found his rhythm in Mauritius, where he finished T-3, and has maintained that form in Johannesburg. After his stellar performance, Mane remarked, “Royal Johannesburg is a fantastic course and club. Playing here is a great experience. It’s wonderful to be in good form early in the season.”
Milind Soni also delivered an outstanding performance. Although he started with a bogey, he made a strong comeback with an eagle and multiple birdies. Notably, he achieved birdies on five consecutive holes, significantly improving his score. Meanwhile, Manav Shah demonstrated consistent play throughout the round. Starting on the back nine, he made three birdies without any bogeys. The second nine was thrilling, where he scored 4-under 32 with four birdies, one eagle, and two bogeys.
In the leaderboard, Pukhraj Singh Gill is in fourth place with a score of 6-under 66. Gaganjeet Bhullar, Karandeep Kochhar, and Sarthak Chhibber are tied for fifth at 5-under 67. Bhullar also played a bogey-free round, although he missed some easy opportunities. In the team competition, the ‘Green Fuels Hyderabad’ team leads, benefiting from the excellent performances of Manav Shah and Milind Soni, with a total score of 14-under. The Honor Gurugram team is in second place at 9-under, while Krishna Punjab is third at 8-under.
In the women’s category, Vidhatri Urs and Vani Kapoor are tied for the lead, both scoring even par 72, which includes two birdies and two bogeys. This tournament is part of the African Swing Series, and the upcoming matches are expected to be even more exciting. The strong start from Indian players has heightened expectations for their chances of winning titles.
