Indian Duo Secures Medal in Asian Games Mixed Doubles Table Tennis

Manush Shah and Diya Chitale clinch a medal in mixed doubles table tennis at the Asian Games, aiming for gold in the semifinals.

Nagoya, September 25 (Daily Kiran) : Indian table tennis stars Manush Shah and Diya Chitale have secured a medal in the mixed doubles event at the Asian Games in Nagoya. The duo achieved this milestone on September 25, 2026, after a remarkable victory over Hong Kong’s world number four pair, Wong Chun-ting and Du Hoi-kem, in the quarterfinals.

The Indian team won the match with a score of 3-1, showcasing their skills with game scores of 11-6, 13-15, 11-9, and 11-5. This victory propelled them into the semifinals, where they are set to face China’s world number two pair, Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha. The Indian team is now focused on securing a spot in the finals.

This marks India’s second mixed doubles medal at the Asian Games. Previously, the duo of Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra won a bronze medal during the 2018 Jakarta edition. Overall, this will be India’s fourth medal in table tennis at the Asian Games.

Manush and Diya started strong, winning the first game 11-6. However, they faced a setback in the second game, losing 13-15. The tension mounted as the match stood at 1-1. In a thrilling comeback, they clinched the third game 11-9, bringing them one step closer to securing a medal. They sealed their victory by winning the fourth game 11-5.

Historically, India has won three bronze medals in table tennis at the Asian Games, and the current mixed doubles team has a great chance to change the color of that medal this time around. In 2018, Manika Batra teamed up with Olympian Sharath Kamal to win bronze in mixed doubles. Other notable members of the 2026 team include Harmit Desai, G. Sathiyan, and Manav Thakkar, who were also part of the bronze-winning men’s team in Jakarta. Additionally, Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee earned another bronze in women’s doubles at the Hangzhou 2023 edition.

In another event, Indian shooters Kamaljeet and Suruchi Inder Singh topped the qualification round, securing their place in the finals of the 10-meter air pistol mixed team event. The Indian pair led the 21-team qualification round with a score of 587, achieving 29 inner 10s. They will compete against teams from Iran, South Korea, and Indonesia in the finals.
