
Bangkok, March 15: Indian youth boxers have continued their impressive performances at the World Boxing Futures Cup 2026 in Bangkok. Following remarkable victories in the semifinals, Chandrika, Gunjan, Joyshree Devi, and Ambecker Meitei have secured their spots in the finals.
In the women’s 51-kilogram category, Chandrika showcased her skills by defeating Morocco’s Rihab Hamdaoun in the second round via a referee-stopped contest (RSC), earning her place in the gold medal match. Gunjan also delivered an outstanding performance in the women’s 48-kilogram category, winning decisively against North Korea’s Yu Gyeong Kim with a score of 5-0 to advance to the finals.
Joyshree Devi (54 kilograms) had a strong showing as well, defeating Mexico’s Sofia Ramirez in the first round through RSC, thus securing her ticket to the final.
In the men’s 50-kilogram category, Ambecker Meitei triumphed over Uzbekistan’s Abdugani Yorqinjonov with a unanimous decision of 5-0, also reaching the finals. Radhamani Longjam (57 kilograms) fought valiantly in the semifinals but faced a narrow defeat against Ukraine’s Yevanhelina Petruk, losing 2-3. Radhamani will settle for a bronze medal.
With four Indian boxers now in their respective category finals, the team’s focus is on maintaining their stellar performance and aiming for gold medals.
The World Boxing Futures Cup is being held from March 8 to 15 in Bangkok. This tournament provides a fantastic opportunity for promising young boxers from around the world to compete in the Youth Olympic weight categories, gaining invaluable international experience. Earlier, five Indian boxers secured their medals by winning in the quarterfinals, including Gunjan, Joyshree Devi, Ambecker Meitei, Chandrika Pujari, and Radhamani Longjam.
