New Delhi, August 18: Indian Army Chief General Dheeraj Seth met with Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah in a courtesy visit in Kathmandu on Tuesday. The two leaders discussed various issues of mutual interest between their countries. The Prime Minister’s Office of Nepal shared official details about the meeting.
Notably, Prime Minister Balendra Shah currently oversees Nepal’s Ministry of Defense. General Dheeraj Seth also holds the honorary title of General in the Nepalese Army. On Monday, during a special ceremony in Kathmandu, Nepal’s President Ramchandra Paudel conferred the honorary title upon General Seth, making this meeting even more significant.
A key topic of discussion was bilateral defense cooperation. It is believed that the meeting focused on strengthening defense ties and addressing shared interests between India and Nepal. Both sides discussed advancing existing defense relations and exploring new areas of collaboration.
Historically, India and Nepal have a long-standing military tradition where each country bestows the honorary title of General to the other’s army chief. This tradition symbolizes deep military ties and mutual trust between the two nations.
On Tuesday, General Dheeraj Seth also visited the Nepalese Army Command and Staff College in Shivpuri. There, he engaged with faculty members and student officers, sharing insights on professional military education and current security challenges.
He emphasized the importance of military leadership, training, and professional military education in the changing security environment. The Command and Staff College also trains military officers from various countries, making General Seth’s interactions with the student officers and instructors vital for strengthening professional ties between Indian and Nepalese military institutions.
The defense relations between India and Nepal encompass military training, capacity building, joint exercises, high-level military visits, and institutional collaboration. Regular dialogue and cooperation occur at various levels between the armed forces of both nations.
