Colombo, August 23: The second Test match between Sri Lanka and India is currently underway at the Sinhalese Sports Club. Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat first. Saransh Jain is making his debut for India in this match.
After winning the toss, Shubman Gill stated, “We will bat first. The pitch looks harder and better compared to Galle. We hope the pitch will remain good for batting for the first two or three days. Kuldeep is out due to an infection, and Saransh is making his debut in his place.”
At 33 years old, Saransh Jain is stepping onto the international stage after spending considerable time in domestic cricket. He was introduced to the team by Ravindra Jadeja. Saransh bats left-handed and bowls right-arm off-spin.
Manav Suthar made his Test debut against Afghanistan and has performed excellently with the ball in the last two matches. All eyes will now be on Saransh Jain’s performance.
Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva commented, “The pitch is good for batting, but I have no issues with bowling. If we can take early wickets, we can apply pressure on them. Kamil Mishara is debuting today, and Pasindu is also playing.”
India won the Galle Test by 165 runs and aims to achieve a clean sweep in the Colombo Test. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is looking to level the series with a win in this match.
