India Successfully Extradites Notorious Drug Trafficker Navpreet Singh from Turkey

New Delhi, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : India’s Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Saturday that the government has successfully extradited notorious drug trafficker Navpreet Singh from Turkey. This operation aims to address Singh’s involvement in drug smuggling and other criminal activities.

Amit Shah shared the news on social media platform X, stating, “The Modi government has achieved a historic milestone by deporting infamous drug trafficker Navpreet Singh from Turkey.” He explained that Singh had been using a fake identity to obtain Turkish citizenship while continuing to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan into India.

Shah praised the efforts of Indian agencies, which tracked down Singh, uncovered his true identity, and facilitated his deportation. Following his return to India, Singh has been remanded to prison to face charges related to drug trafficking and other offenses. The Home Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to dismantling every drug cartel by December 2029.

Earlier in April, another significant figure, Mohammed Salim Dola, a close associate of wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim, was also extradited from Turkey. Shah remarked that this operation demonstrated the government’s resolve to bring fugitives involved in drug trafficking and organized crime to justice.

In May, the Delhi Police’s Special Cell, in collaboration with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), successfully extradited fugitive Prabhdeep Singh from Azerbaijan. This case was linked to the seizure of 358 kilograms of heroin.

The formalities for Prabhdeep’s extradition were completed before a three-member team from the Special Cell brought him back to India. India and Turkey signed an extradition treaty in 2001, which came into effect in June 2002. This agreement allows both countries to seek the transfer of fugitives wanted for terrorism and other serious crimes.

Turkey has previously assisted India in extraditing individuals linked to extremist networks, including suspected operatives of the Islamic State. Such operations are often coordinated through Interpol via Red Corner Notices and other established procedures.
