
Jakarta, July 15: India has delivered an impressive performance at the Asian Under-19 and Under-23 Boxing Championships in the women’s category. In the finals held in Jakarta, Indonesia, India secured a total of 5 gold, 10 silver, and 4 bronze medals across both age groups.
In the Under-19 women’s category, India clinched two gold and six silver medals, showcasing the strength of its young athletes.
Chandrika Pujari excelled in the 51 kg category, defeating Uzbekistan’s Nazokat Mardonova with a decisive 5:0 victory to win the gold medal. Prachi also triumphed over Indonesia’s Dira Artika to secure another gold for India. Other finalists from India in the Under-19 category put up a strong fight but had to settle for silver medals.
India’s performance in the Under-23 women’s category was equally remarkable, with 1 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze medals.
Nisha won the gold medal in the 54 kg category by defeating Japan’s Koin Kokufu 5:0. Other gold medalists from India maintained their excellent form, securing top positions on the podium.
However, Nikita Chand (60 kg), Kajal (65 kg), and Muskaan (75 kg) faced tough competition from strong Uzbek rivals in their finals, resulting in silver medals. The bronze medals were earned through reaching the semifinals, highlighting India’s consistent excellence across various weight categories.
These results reaffirm India’s dominance at the youth level, particularly in women’s boxing. The performance reflects India’s growing prowess in Asian age-group boxing, showcasing a strong pool of talented athletes ready for the future.
