India Secures Semi-Final Spot in T20 World Cup 2026 with Thrilling Win Against West Indies

Kolkata, March 2: In a high-stakes match during the T20 World Cup 2026 Super-8 stage, India triumphed over West Indies by five wickets, securing their place in the semi-finals. Captain Suryakumar Yadav described the match as a “do-or-die” situation, praising the team’s remarkable spirit.

Expressing his joy at reaching the semi-finals, Yadav stated, “It feels fantastic. This was a do-or-die match, and the boys showed tremendous passion.”

Sanju Samson had scored 22 runs against Namibia and 24 against Zimbabwe, but he shone in the crucial match against West Indies, playing an unbeaten innings of 97 runs off 50 balls, which included four sixes and twelve fours.

On Samson’s performance, Suryakumar remarked, “I always say that good things happen to those who wait and have patience. The hard work Sanju put in behind the scenes, especially when he wasn’t getting opportunities, paid off at just the right moment.”

Reflecting on the bowling strategy after West Indies’ innings, Suryakumar noted, “I felt all the bowlers executed the plan well. We knew that chasing a score of 200 was possible due to the dew factor, as the ball was coming onto the bat nicely. Later, the batsmen formed small partnerships, which were key to our victory.”

Regarding the excitement of reaching the semi-finals, the Indian captain expressed, “We are very happy to be here. The way we played the first match, we believe we deserve this spot.”

West Indies batted first, scoring 195 runs for the loss of four wickets. In response, India managed to secure the win despite losing two wickets for just 41 runs.

Addressing the pressure of expectations, Suryakumar stated, “Expectations will always be there, but you need to know what to do on the field. I told the boys that there would be pressure and people’s expectations, but it’s essential to show courage and make positive decisions under pressure. There’s no fun without pressure; it gives you butterflies in your stomach, but the real challenge is how you understand and handle it.”
