New Delhi, February 2: India-Finland trade is expected to double by 2032, reaching 6 billion euros from the current level of 3 billion euros, Finland’s Ambassador to India, Kimmo Lahdevirta, announced on Monday.
Speaking to news agencies, Ambassador Lahdevirta described the India-European Union free trade agreement (FTA) as historic, calling it the biggest trade deal ever concluded by either India or the EU.
He said the aim is to double trade between India and Finland within the next decade following the implementation of the FTA. The agreement holds great significance and benefits for both sides, especially at a time when strengthening global partnerships has become crucial.
The ambassador highlighted that the successful conclusion of the FTA negotiations marks a new phase in EU-India relations. He added that the deal will not only reinforce economic ties but also bring new dimensions to political relations between the two regions.
The FTA will create a more predictable and open framework for businesses, encouraging companies from both countries to enhance their presence in each other’s markets. Lahdevirta pointed out that sectors such as technology, services, manufacturing, and innovation will see new opportunities and substantial growth in trade and investment in the coming years.
He emphasized that strong economic relations under the broader EU-India framework will further deepen the long-term partnership between Finland and India.
The India-EU trade agreement was announced on January 27 and has been referred to by both parties as the “mother of all trade deals.”
