India and Vietnam Strengthen Ties with Key Agreements

New Delhi, May 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vietnam’s President To Lam met at Hyderabad House to enhance bilateral relations. Significant agreements were exchanged during this meeting. In a joint press conference, PM Modi emphasized the importance of these agreements.

Welcoming President To Lam, PM Modi stated, “We are honored to host President To Lam in India. His visit, accompanied by a high-level delegation and business leaders, reflects the priority he places on our relationship.”

Highlighting the spiritual connection between the two nations, PM Modi noted that President To Lam began his visit in Bodh Gaya. This signifies the shared spiritual traditions of our countries. “We are transforming our relationship into tangible outcomes. The partnership between India and Vietnam holds significance in heritage and development. Last year, when Buddhist relics from India were sent to Vietnam, over 1.5 million people visited them, representing 15% of Vietnam’s total population.”

To preserve our shared heritage, PM Modi announced the restoration of Vietnam’s ancient Champa civilization temples, My Son and Nhan Tower. “We will also digitize the manuscripts of Champa civilization to safeguard this invaluable heritage for future generations,” he added.

PM Modi also mentioned the strengthening trade relations, stating, “Our cooperation will reach new heights in every sector. Bilateral trade between India and Vietnam has doubled over the past decade, reaching $16 billion. We have made several important decisions today to increase this to $25 billion by 2030. Soon, Vietnam will enjoy the taste of Indian grapes and pomegranates. We are pleased that air connectivity between our countries is continuously improving.”

Regarding key agreements in various sectors, PM Modi said, “The MoU between our drug authorities will enhance access to Indian medicines in Vietnam. Exports of India’s agricultural, fishery, and livestock products to Vietnam will also become easier.”

Referring to the Act East Policy, PM Modi remarked, “Vietnam is a key pillar of India’s Act East Policy and Vision for the Ocean. Our understanding in the Indo-Pacific region is aligned. Through our strengthening defense and security cooperation, we will continue to contribute to the rule of law, peace, stability, and prosperity. With Vietnam’s support, India will further broaden its relations with ASEAN.”
