Hyderabad Police Seize 100 Vehicles with Fake License Plates
In a crackdown, Hyderabad traffic police confiscated 100 vehicles using fake license plates to enhance road safety and enforce traffic laws.

Hyderabad, October 19 (Daily Kiran) : Hyderabad traffic police have launched a focused operation resulting in the seizure of 100 vehicles equipped with fake license plates. This initiative aims to combat the misuse of vehicle registration numbers and strengthen adherence to traffic regulations.
The crackdown comes in response to a rising number of complaints regarding the use of counterfeit plates, which are often employed to conceal vehicle identities, evade traffic laws, and violate legal regulations. Over the past eight months, authorities have recorded 100 criminal cases related to this issue, leading to the confiscation of 88 two-wheelers and 12 four-wheelers.
Joint Commissioner of Traffic, D. Joel Davis, highlighted that utilizing fake registration plates constitutes a serious legal violation. It poses significant challenges to law enforcement, crime prevention, and public safety. Such practices can hinder the identification of vehicles, obstruct investigations, and allow offenders to evade legal accountability.
Davis urged all vehicle owners to comply strictly with the registration plate specifications outlined in the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988 and the Central Motor Vehicle Rules of 1989. He emphasized that any alterations to registration numbers, unauthorized fonts, decorative letters, stickers, or any modifications that obscure or misrepresent the actual registration number are strictly prohibited.
Vehicle owners are responsible for ensuring their registration plates are authentic, clearly visible, and compliant with legal standards. The Hyderabad traffic police will continue their focused enforcement campaign against vehicles displaying fake, altered, or unauthorized registration plates. Traffic personnel will maintain vigilant monitoring to identify such violations and initiate appropriate legal actions against offenders.
The department remains committed to enhancing traffic discipline, ensuring vehicle identification and accountability, preventing the misuse of registration numbers, and safeguarding law-abiding road users.
