Hyderabad, August 24: In a tragic incident in Gachibowli, two days after a construction site collapsed, the owner, Syed Sajid, has been arrested by Cyberabad police. The collapse resulted in the deaths of two workers. Sajid constructed a seven-story building on a 50 square yard plot, violating regulations.
He was apprehended at Hyderabad International Airport while attempting to flee the country. Authorities are currently searching for the contractor, Khwaja Moinuddin. The accused began construction without the necessary approval from the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC). They only possessed 38 square yards of land and illegally occupied an additional 10 square yards from a nearby drain for the building.
The collapse also damaged a nearby structure, prompting the owner to file a complaint at the Raedurgam police station against Sajid and Khwaja. The under-construction building in Anjaiah Nagar fell on Saturday, leading to the deaths of two migrant workers, identified as Umesh Khare and Mopath, and injuring three others.
In a joint operation, the damaged apartment complex was demolished by the Cyberabad civic body and the Hyderabad Disaster Management and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA). CMC officials stated that the building was constructed without a valid permit, posing a public safety risk. They requested HYDRAA to demolish it.
CMC Commissioner G. Srijana suspended a town planning officer for failing to act against illegal construction. She instructed the town planning department to promptly identify unauthorized structures and take action. Officials were also directed to demolish any buildings constructed without approval or in violation of regulations that threaten public safety. The police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
