Udaipur, March 24, 2026 (Daily Kiran): Hindustan Zinc Limited has strengthened its long-standing collaboration with Tata Steel to scale up the use of low-carbon zinc solution ‘EcoZen’ in sustainable steel manufacturing.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to integrate climate considerations into core industrial processes and procurement strategies. EcoZen, Asia’s first low-carbon zinc, is produced using renewable energy and has a verified carbon footprint of less than one tonne of carbon emissions per tonne of zinc, nearly 75 percent lower than the global industry average.

By reducing emissions at the raw material stage, EcoZen enables downstream industries to significantly lower their value-chain emissions and advance their decarbonisation goals.

Hindustan Zinc CEO Arun Misra said EcoZen represents a sustainable solution aligned with the evolving needs of global manufacturing. He added that the partnership with Tata Steel marks a key milestone in scaling the adoption of low-carbon zinc and strengthening green supply chains in India’s industrial ecosystem.

Zinc plays a crucial role in galvanising steel to protect it from corrosion and extend its lifespan, making it essential across sectors such as infrastructure, automotive, renewable energy, electronics and energy storage. Since zinc coating contributes to the carbon footprint of galvanised steel, the use of low-carbon zinc like EcoZen can deliver measurable downstream benefits.

Compared to conventional zinc, EcoZen can help prevent nearly 400 kilograms of carbon emissions per tonne of galvanised steel, offering customers a pathway to reduce Scope 3 emissions while improving overall sustainability performance.

Ranjan Sinha, Chief Procurement Officer at Tata Steel, welcomed the delivery of EcoZen at the company’s Sahibabad plant and said the collaboration highlights a shared commitment to advancing sustainable practices and green technologies across the supplier ecosystem.

Hindustan Zinc has been a strategic partner of Tata Steel for over two decades. The expanded engagement under the EcoZen initiative marks a significant step forward, combining operational excellence with a strong focus on decarbonisation, sustainable practices and responsible sourcing.

Through this partnership, both companies aim to support broader climate commitments, from reducing Scope 3 emissions to enabling climate-aligned procurement frameworks, while contributing to India’s transition towards a low-carbon and resilient industrial future.
