Himanta Biswa Sarma Challenges Rahul Gandhi on Passport Transparency

Bhubaneswar, April 15: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Odisha to seek blessings from Lord Jagannath before launching his campaign for the West Bengal Assembly elections. On Wednesday, CM Sarma launched a strong attack on Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, questioning the transparency of his foreign travels.

Sarma stated that before accusing others, Rahul Gandhi should be transparent about his passport and foreign trips. “I am ready to present my passport and that of my entire family to the press. Rahul Gandhi should do the same, so we can see where he has traveled,” he asserted.

Additionally, Sarma challenged Gandhi to publicly address the allegations made against him over the past decade, emphasizing that those who make accusations should also be prepared to answer questions.

Meanwhile, Sarma noted that the Supreme Court has canceled the bail of Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera, affirming that the law is taking its course. He mentioned that the Assam government had escalated the matter to the Supreme Court, which has delivered its verdict. “The law will find its own way,” he stated.

The Assam CM dismissed allegations made by Khera regarding the possession of three passports, asserting that Khera claimed Sarma’s wife holds a UAE golden visa/passport and passports from Egypt and Antigua and Barbuda, suggesting potential violations of Indian citizenship laws.

In response, Sarma labeled these claims as part of a smear campaign, alleging they are based on fabricated, AI-manipulated documents. He also hinted at pursuing legal action regarding this matter. Speaking to the media, Sarma congratulated Samrat Chaudhary on taking the oath as Chief Minister of Bihar, calling it a significant moment for the party and the NDA alliance.

Sarma emphasized that this is an NDA government, not just a BJP government. “While the BJP may have the Chief Minister, the government is formed collectively with all our alliance partners. We should refer to it as an NDA government,” he stated.

He also expressed support for the Women’s Reservation Bill currently being discussed in Parliament, urging all parties, including the opposition, to fully endorse the legislation.
