Tel Aviv, June 6: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have reported an attack from Hezbollah, claiming that surface-to-air missiles were fired at Israeli Air Force planes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the aircraft sustained no damage.
According to a report from the Xinhua news agency, air raid sirens were activated in Kiryat Shmona and eight villages in northeastern Israel near the Lebanese border following the missile launch, prompting thousands of residents to rush to shelters.
This incident occurred shortly after Israel and Lebanon agreed to implement a ceasefire during trilateral talks in Washington on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has sharply criticized Iran for using Lebanon as a bargaining chip in negotiations with the United States. He also condemned Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Naim Qassem, stating that the Lebanese people are weary of war and desire to live in peace.
Aoun made these remarks in an interview released by the Lebanese presidential office on Friday.
On Thursday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that a key condition for Iran to accept the April 8 agreement with the U.S. and Israel was a complete ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon.
In the interview, Aoun emphasized, “This is not your country; it is our country.” He stated that it is unacceptable for regional powers to exploit Lebanon for their interests while its citizens suffer the consequences of conflict, including death, displacement, and devastation.
He asserted that the only practical way to end the conflict between Lebanon and Israel is through dialogue. Aoun stressed that the Lebanese state and government must address the issue of Hezbollah domestically, tackling the root causes of the group’s armed presence, which include Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the cessation of hostilities.
He noted that Lebanese people from all communities and regions are exhausted from decades of conflict.
In response to Qassem’s statements, which threatened to topple the government through protests against the agreement, Aoun remarked, “They are the Lebanese people, not Naim Qassem’s people.”
