Heavy Rainfall Alert Issued for Guwahati Over the Next Few Days

Guwahati, April 25: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Guwahati over the next three to four days. According to the weather department, some areas in the city may receive between 7 to 20 centimeters of rain within 24 hours. Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are also expected during this period.

This weather pattern could exacerbate flooding issues in the city. Water accumulation on roads may disrupt vehicle movement and slow down traffic. Additionally, the risk of landslides in hilly and sensitive areas has increased. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) is closely monitoring the situation and has placed emergency teams on alert.

ASDMA has urged all residents of Guwahati to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. Daily commuters and those planning long journeys are advised to adjust their routines according to the weather. It is recommended to avoid unnecessary outings during heavy rainfall. Residents in low-lying and hilly regions should be particularly alert for any signs of flooding or landslides and move to safer locations if needed.

The ASDMA has stated that the latest weather updates will be regularly posted on its official website and social media channels. Citizens are encouraged to rely solely on official sources for weather information and to follow the advice provided by local authorities.

This alert comes as the monsoon season begins in Assam. Both IMD and ASDMA are working together to manage the situation. If the rainfall continues, it may put additional pressure on the city’s drainage system, making it crucial for all citizens to stay alert for their safety and that of their families.
