Heavy Rain Forecasted for 19 Districts in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, May 25: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted heavy rainfall across 19 districts in Tamil Nadu today. The forecast also indicates the continuation of strong winds and widespread rain in various parts of the state.

After weeks of intense heat, recent rains have provided relief to residents, cooling the weather in several districts. The weather department attributed the ongoing rain to a cyclonic circulation over the southeastern Arabian Sea and a low-pressure system affecting Kerala and southeastern regions.

On Sunday, areas including Namakkal, Rasipuram, and Tiruchengode experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. Residents in Erode, who have been enduring extreme heat, welcomed the sudden downpour, which brought a drop in temperature.

Rainfall was also reported in several locations, including parts of Pooyathanallur, Rayamburam, Senthurai, and Ariyalur, further cooling the atmosphere. In Dharmapuri district, heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning disrupted daily life, forcing drivers to use headlights due to poor visibility. Vaniyambadi in Tirupattur district experienced strong winds and hail, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Heavy rain was also recorded in Krishnagiri district and nearby areas such as Kaveripattinam, Bargur, Allapatti, Kundarapalli, Veppanahalli, and Melumalai. In Shivaganga district, Singampunari and surrounding areas experienced heavy rain for over an hour.

According to the weather department, heavy rain with strong winds is expected in Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Theni, and Dindigul districts on Monday and Tuesday. Heavy rainfall is also forecasted for Erode, Tiruppur, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Tiruchi, Namakkal, Karur, and Madurai districts.

The weather department has predicted light rain in Chennai during the evening or night. The forecast also suggests the possibility of strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour in some areas.
