
Jaipur, March 9: The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave warning for parts of Rajasthan on Monday and Tuesday, as temperatures in various regions have reached record levels. For the first time this season, the mercury has crossed 40 degrees Celsius.
In the last 24 hours, Pilani in Jhunjhunu district recorded a maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius, while Barmer reached 40 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, several areas in Barmer and Balotra experienced heatwave conditions. After intense sunlight in the morning, light to moderate hot winds persisted throughout the day.
Other cities also reported high temperatures, including Bikaner at 39.4 degrees Celsius, Churu at 39.1 degrees Celsius, Jaisalmer at 39.2 degrees Celsius, Jodhpur at 38.8 degrees Celsius, and Phalodi at 38.2 degrees Celsius. Mild heatwave conditions were observed in these areas as well.
Sunday saw extreme heat in several parts of the state. In Jaipur, Udaipur, Ajmer, and Kota, over 15 cities recorded maximum temperatures of 36 degrees Celsius or higher.
According to the weather center of the Indian Meteorological Department in Jaipur, no relief from the heat is expected soon, with temperatures likely to rise by another 2-3 degrees Celsius across the state next week.
The department has issued a yellow alert for Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Balotra due to the anticipated heatwave conditions on Monday and Tuesday.
Temperatures in Jaipur have been steadily increasing over the past week. On March 1, the city’s maximum temperature was recorded at 32.2 degrees Celsius, which has risen to 37.1 degrees Celsius by Sunday. Residents are beginning to feel the impact of the rising heat, with many avoiding going out during the afternoon due to the intense sunlight.
After sunset, temperatures drop rapidly, providing some relief during the night. On Sunday, many cities recorded maximum temperatures above 36 degrees Celsius.
These include Pali at 37.5 degrees Celsius, Jhunjhunu at 37.4 degrees Celsius, Karauli at 36.6 degrees Celsius, Fatehpur at 38.5 degrees Celsius, Jalore at 37.3 degrees Celsius, Dungarpur at 37.3 degrees Celsius, Sri Ganganagar at 37.4 degrees Celsius, Udaipur at 36.3 degrees Celsius, Kota at 36.7 degrees Celsius, Sikar at 36 degrees Celsius, Bhilwara at 36 degrees Celsius, Alwar at 36.2 degrees Celsius, and Ajmer at 37 degrees Celsius.
