Patna, March 26: In a continued effort against corruption, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) launched a significant operation in Nalanda, the home district of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Thursday. During this operation, a health department official was arrested on charges of accepting bribes.
The action took place in the Nagarnausa block, following a complaint regarding bribery related to the modification of a birth certificate for an ASHA worker.
Upon receiving the complaint, vigilance officials caught Block Community Mobilizer (BCM) Manjeet Kumar red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.
According to an official, the accused had initially demanded ₹25,000 from Bobby Kumari, a resident of Nagarnausa. After negotiations, the amount was settled at ₹10,000.
Refusing to pay the bribe, the complainant contacted the vigilance department, prompting an investigation that confirmed the allegations.
Based on these findings, the vigilance team set a trap. As soon as the money was handed over, officials sprang into action and arrested the accused at his home, causing a stir in the area.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Shriram Chaudhary confirmed that the complaint was filed on February 23. After verification, a raid team was formed, successfully executing the operation.
Following the arrest, the accused has been taken into custody for questioning, and further legal actions are underway.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the health administration, clearly instilling fear among employees amid the ongoing anti-corruption campaign in Bihar.
Notably, this marks the second significant action by the Vigilance Investigation Bureau in the Nagarnausa block within a week, highlighting the ongoing anti-corruption efforts in the region. Previously, on March 20, a Block Panchayati Raj Officer (BPRO) was also arrested for accepting a bribe of ₹12,000 at the block office.
