
Bhubaneswar, March 21: The 24th National Para Athletics Championship 2026, held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha from March 17 to 21, showcased Haryana’s dominance. The state emerged as the overall champion, securing a remarkable total of 95 medals, including 39 gold, 31 silver, and 25 bronze.
Tamil Nadu followed in second place with 51 medals (14 gold, 20 silver, 17 bronze), while Gujarat claimed third with 30 medals (14 gold, 11 silver, 5 bronze). The host state, Odisha, finished ninth with a total of 17 medals, including 5 gold.
A total of 1,460 para-athletes from 28 states participated in this championship. Additionally, teams from the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) contributed to the medal events with 145 medals.
In the Men’s Discus Throw F11 event, Haryana’s Monu Ghangas won gold with a throw of 35.05 meters. Rajasthan’s Praveen Sharma (33.69 meters) took silver, while Andhra Pradesh’s Neelam Sanjay Reddy (31.34 meters) secured bronze.
In the Men’s Discus Throw F51–F52–F53 event, Uttar Pradesh’s Ram Ratan Singh clinched gold with a throw of 11.98 meters. Haryana’s Pranav Surma (10.97 meters) and Dharambir (9.61 meters) followed in second and third places, respectively.
In track events, Gujarat’s Bhatt Rakeshbhai won gold in the Men’s 200 meters T37 with a time of 24.25 seconds, while Maharashtra’s Abhishek Babasa Jadhav topped the Men’s 200 meters T35.
In long-distance events, Himachal Pradesh’s Saurabh Sharma excelled, winning the Men’s 5,000 meters T13 with a time of 16:00.88. Haryana’s Ankur Dhama also secured gold in the Men’s 5,000 meters T11 with a time of 17:47.54.
In the Women’s Long Jump T11–T12 event, Gujarat’s Damor Tejlabhen Amraji won gold with an impressive jump of 4.95 meters. Odisha’s Janki Oram took silver, while Delhi’s Shivani Tyagi claimed bronze. In the Women’s Javelin Throw F12–F13, Arunachal Pradesh’s Kipa Mero won gold with a throw of 23.76 meters, followed by Karnataka’s Gangavya and Haryana’s Aastha Tokas in second and third places, respectively.
Haryana maintained its dominance in field events, with Hani winning gold in the Men’s Discus Throw F37 with a throw of 49.65 meters. Gujarat’s Manav Prajapati took silver, and Haryana’s Bhavishya secured bronze.
Other notable performances included Odisha’s Suchitra Parida winning gold in the Women’s Javelin Throw F56, while Uttar Pradesh excelled in the Men’s Discus Throw F64, with Kartik Chahal and Sagar Thayat winning gold and silver, respectively.
