Panchkula, March 20: During the Rajya Sabha elections in Haryana, Congress MLA Shaili Chaudhary addressed allegations of cross voting following a show-cause notice. She claimed that she has been targeted by the party for several years. Chaudhary asserted that her name has been brought up to protect others.
The Congress party issued notices to several MLAs, including Shaili Chaudhary from Narayangarh, Mohammad Ilyas from Punhana, Mohammad Israel from Hathin, Renu Bala from Sadhaura, and Jarnail Singh from Ratia, regarding the cross voting issue.
In an interview with a news agency, Chaudhary stated that the accusations against her are baseless. She emphasized that the focus is on her while others are being shielded. “Nine votes were invalidated during the elections. Why are only a few names being mentioned? Party members are trying to protect certain individuals,” she said.
Chaudhary mentioned that they have been given a week to respond to the notice. “We will submit our response. We will inform the Congress high command that we voted for the party candidate. Those who actually engaged in cross voting should face consequences. I am with Congress, and I will accept whatever decision the high command makes,” she added.
Responding to allegations made by Geeta Bhukkal, Chaudhary questioned, “How can Geeta Bhukkal claim that I spoiled my vote? Was she present to witness my vote? She has a habit of making false accusations in the media.”
She challenged anyone to prove that she or her associates visited the Chief Minister’s residence or had any contact with him. “If someone can prove that, I will leave politics,” she declared, expressing sorrow for herself and her family over the ongoing targeting.
Chaudhary accused the party of targeting her for years, stating, “This has been happening for many years. Initially, my husband was trapped and pushed away from politics. Now, they want to eliminate me from politics as well. They do not like us, which is why we are being targeted.”
She also mentioned that the BJP opposed her during the voting process. “When I went to cast my vote, BJP members protested against it. Party members defended me. I was held back for 10-15 minutes, and my vote was checked three times before I was allowed to vote. If I was voting for the BJP, why were they opposing me?” she questioned.
Chaudhary affirmed that the people of her constituency know her well and stand by her. “The public’s blessings are with me,” she stated.
She acknowledged factionalism within the Congress party, saying, “The entire Haryana knows that factionalism is why Congress could not form a government in the state. If there were no factions, Congress would have been in power in Haryana by 2024.”
