Harshit Rana Aims to Become Reliable All-Rounder for India

Vadodara witnessed a thrilling encounter on Sunday as the Indian cricket team secured a four-wicket victory against New Zealand in the first One Day International (ODI) match. Harshit Rana played a crucial role with both bat and ball, contributing significantly to India’s win.

In a post-match press conference, Harshit Rana revealed that the team management is focusing on grooming him as a dependable all-rounder. He shared that he has been asked to improve his batting skills to contribute valuable runs when the team needs them the most.

“The team management wants to develop me as a reliable all-rounder in the ODI format,” said Rana. “Along with taking wickets, there is emphasis on scoring runs in the lower order. The clarity in my role and the trust shown by senior players have boosted my confidence immensely. When I was sent in to bat, the support from teammates was my biggest strength.”

Rana added, “My task is to keep working hard consistently. I am putting extra effort into my batting during the nets. The team’s plan is to have me bat around number eight.”

Chasing a target of 301 runs set by New Zealand, India looked strong with a 77-run partnership for the third wicket between Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. However, early dismissals of Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Iyer put India under pressure. After Jadeja’s wicket, despite Washington Sundar being available, Rana was promoted to number seven due to Sundar’s injury. Rana scored a quick 29 runs off 23 balls, including two boundaries and a six, easing India’s path to victory. He also took two important wickets, those of Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls.

India reached a total of 306 runs for six wickets in 49 overs, winning the match by four wickets. Rahul remained unbeaten on 29, and Sundar scored 7 not out. Virat Kohli, who scored 93 runs, was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
