Gunfire in Eldorado Park Claims Two Lives, Six Injured

Johannesburg, March 16: In a tragic incident on Saturday night, eight unidentified assailants opened fire during a social gathering in Eldorado Park, located south of Johannesburg, South Africa. The shooting resulted in the deaths of two individuals, while six others sustained injuries. According to the Gauteng provincial police, the attackers fled the scene on foot after the incident.

Reports from the Xinhua news agency indicate that the six injured victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Brenda Muridili, a spokesperson for the Gauteng provincial police, stated, “No suspects have been arrested so far, and the motive behind the attack remains unknown at this stage.” She added that the search for the suspects is ongoing, and the police are appealing to the public for assistance in their investigation.

This incident occurred as the government has ramped up security in Eldorado Park and surrounding areas. Additional resources, including personnel from the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), have been deployed to assist with ongoing investigations.

In a related event, SANDF soldiers were deployed in Eldorado Park and Riverlea on March 11, 2026, showcasing their presence in the area.

This deployment is part of a nationwide initiative aimed at supporting the South African Police Service (SAPS) in combating gang-related activities, violent crime, and organized criminal activities.

Videos of military vehicles entering the gang-violence-affected Eldorado Park area have circulated widely on social media, sparking various debates about the deployment.

Previously, on June 14, 2025, a shooting incident outside a mosque in Eldorado Park resulted in nine people being shot, three of whom died.

According to reports, this incident occurred around 9 PM in the Extension-1 area. Four individuals were standing outside the mosque with five others when a white Audi drove by and opened fire on the group.

In another incident, a man opened fire on a crowd in Eldorado Park, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to another person.

Police reported that on May 14, 2025, the man approached a group of people sitting near a local tuck shop and suddenly began shooting at them without provocation.

Additionally, a shooting occurred between City Power security officers and a suspect in Eldorado Park while the individual attempted to steal electrical cables. The suspect was shot and killed, while an accomplice was apprehended.
