New Delhi, May 11: The crisis in West Asia persists, with ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States. President Donald Trump has rejected Tehran’s demands. In this context, India has confirmed that its embassies in these countries remain in constant contact with Indian citizens.
During a daily inter-ministerial press briefing, Asim R. Mahajan, Additional Secretary (Gulf) of the Ministry of External Affairs, represented the Indian government’s stance.
He stated, “The Ministry of External Affairs is closely monitoring the situation in the Gulf and West Asia. Our focus is on ensuring the safety and welfare of the Indian community residing in the region. We are in continuous contact with state governments and union territories for information sharing and coordinated efforts.”
The Indian government reiterated its commitment to providing all possible assistance to its citizens in Gulf countries and the Middle East. He mentioned that a special control room has been established within the ministry to actively respond to inquiries from Indian citizens and their families. Our embassies and consulates in the region are operating 24/7 helplines to provide timely assistance to Indian nationals. They are actively supporting our citizens and maintaining constant communication with local governments.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, some countries have resumed full-time, while others have initiated partial air services, with additional flights being operated. The UAE airspace is fully open, and flights are arriving at various airports in India. Regular flights continue from Saudi Arabia and Oman, while partial air services have commenced in Qatar. Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo, and Qatar Airways are providing these services.
Additionally, Kuwait’s airspace is open. Flights from Bahrain are being operated by IndiGo and Gulf Airways. Limited flights are ongoing in Iraq, and Iran’s airspace is partially open. We urge Indians residing there to avoid traveling to these areas and encourage those present to seek assistance from the embassy to leave as soon as possible.
