Gujarat to Rank Government Offices on Cleanliness and Record Management

Gandhinagar, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : Gandhinagar is set to implement a ranking system for all government offices based on cleanliness and record management as part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva-2026’ campaign. This initiative emphasizes the disposal of accumulated scrap, e-waste, and other unusable materials.

The primary goal of this initiative is to enhance cleanliness in government offices, ensure better record management, and create more organized workplaces by removing unnecessary items.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the campaign will run from September 17 to October 17. It aims to improve cleanliness and operational methods within government offices. Key components will include the removal or disposal of old files, records, unused items, and electronic waste.

This campaign coincides with the celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary and follows the theme ‘Participation in Cleanliness, Clean India, Developed India.’ According to directives from the General Administration Department, offices will be evaluated on a 100-point scale.

The scoring will allocate 20% of points for resolving pending files, 30% for record classification, and the remaining 50% for the removal of scrap, e-waste, and maintaining office cleanliness.

The initiative will encompass secretariat departments, heads of departments in Gandhinagar, and government offices at district and taluka levels. Offices will be categorized into three tiers: Best, Emerging, and Aspiring.

At the district level, the campaign will be overseen by the Collector, while the Taluka level will be managed by the Mamlatdar.

To assess the campaign’s impact, the government will compare the status of offices before and after the initiative. Offices will be required to report on old and pending files resolved, classified records, cleared spaces, and income generated from scrap sales.

Reports, along with photographs and necessary documents, must be submitted by October 31. The baseline for evaluation will be the status as of June 30, 2026, with progress measured by the end of the campaign on October 17. A high-level committee will then evaluate the operations of the offices and prepare a final list by November 30.

Selected offices will receive certificates on December 25. This campaign will assist the state government in gathering comprehensive data across the state, including the number of resolved old files, classified records, amounts of scrap and e-waste removed, cleared office space, and income generated from disposals.
