Mehsana, July 1: The Mehsana District Panchayat has launched a pioneering initiative called ‘District Panchayat at Your Doorstep’ in Gujarat. This program aims to resolve the grievances of rural residents close to their homes, eliminating the need for them to travel to the district headquarters.
The initiative was inaugurated on Wednesday at the renowned Shakti Peeth Bahucharaji, under the guidance of Mehsana District Panchayat President Nitin Patel.
This program seeks to bring district-level administration directly to villages, allowing residents to present their pending civic and welfare issues to senior officials.
The first public hearing took place at the Annapurna Bhavan in Bahucharaji, where a large number of residents from Bahucharaji and nearby villages raised concerns about road conditions, drinking water supply, borewells, the availability of Talati (revenue officers) in village panchayats, and the construction of new village panchayat buildings.
Nitin Patel listened to the people’s issues and demanded responses from the relevant department officials present. He instructed officials to resolve public complaints within a specified timeframe and ensure that citizens face no difficulties in the administrative process.
During the program, several infrastructure-related issues were also highlighted. Residents requested the completion of a 200-meter unfinished road section on the Shankhalpur-Kalari bypass, which has been pending due to a canal.
Additionally, there were demands for the reconstruction and widening of the damaged road from Dodivada-Adivada to Khambhel Chokdi, as well as the prompt completion of the long-pending Kanoda-Ranela road project.
Other requests included the appointment of a permanent Talati in the Ranela village panchayat, the construction of a new village panchayat building, the development of the Ambka-Badiyaf road, the construction of new borewells in Saduthala village, and the resumption of the long-stopped state transport bus service.
On this occasion, Nitin Patel stated that the program’s goal is to make government services easily accessible to the public and to address local issues at the local level.
He emphasized, “The main objective of this program is to ensure that administrative services reach the last person easily and that local problems are resolved locally. To make this process more transparent and effective, a separate master register will be maintained in each taluka by Chitnish, recording all applications and follow-ups.”
He further mentioned, “The district administration will review these issues every month, and matters that fall under the jurisdiction of the state government will be escalated for prompt resolution.”
Alongside the public hearing, beneficiaries of various government schemes were also distributed Ayushman cards, income certificates, and caste certificates.
The event was attended by MLA Sukhuji Thakor, former minister Rajni Patel, District Development Officer Anchu Wilson, local leaders Kamlesh Desai and Devang Pandya, along with senior officials from the district and taluka panchayat.
