Gujarat Increases Daily Meal Allowance for Mountaineering Trainees to ₹350
The Gujarat government raises the daily meal allowance for mountaineering trainees, effective April 2027, benefiting over 500 participants.

Gandhinagar, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : The Gujarat government has announced an increase in the daily meal allowance for mountaineering trainees and instructors at its training centers in Junagadh and Mount Abu. The allowance will rise from ₹150 to ₹350 per person, effective April 1, 2027.
This decision, made by the Department of Sports, Youth, and Cultural Activities, is expected to incur an additional annual cost of ₹11.10 lakh. Approximately 510 trainees participating in mountaineering camps at both centers will benefit from this increase. The Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Mountaineering Training Center in Junagadh hosts around 230 trainees annually, while the state mountaineering institute in Mount Abu accommodates about 280 trainees each year.
The hike in the meal allowance will add ₹3.40 lakh annually at the Junagadh center and ₹7.70 lakh at the Mount Abu institute. Both centers operate under the Youth Services and Cultural Activities Commission and conduct over 20 government and non-government mountaineering training camps throughout the year.
The revised allowance will apply to both trainees and instructors participating in these camps. The government stated that this increase aims to enhance food facilities and ensure adequate nutrition for those undergoing physically demanding mountaineering training.
Mountaineering requires sustained physical effort, endurance, and fitness, as trainees spend long hours practicing on mountains and challenging rock formations. This increase is intended to assist them in maintaining their stamina and physical fitness during training sessions.
According to the government’s announcement, the additional allocation of ₹11.10 lakh per year will help meet the nutritional needs of approximately 510 youths enrolled in both institutions.
