Over 3 Million Farmers Benefit from PM-KUSUM Scheme, Saving ₹1 Lakh Annually with Solar Pumps, Says PM Modi
PM Modi announces that over 3 million farmers are saving ₹1 lakh annually through the PM-KUSUM scheme using solar pumps.

New Delhi, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on November 2 that the PM-KUSUM scheme has benefited over 3 million farmers across India. This initiative allows farmers to save approximately ₹1 lakh annually by utilizing solar pumps for irrigation.
Speaking at the Renewable Energy Summit held in Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, Modi highlighted India’s rapid advancements in renewable energy over the past twelve years. He noted that the government has successfully connected industries, farms, and homes to solar energy.
“The PM-KUSUM scheme has enabled more than 3 million farmers to access solar-powered irrigation facilities,” Modi stated. “Each farmer is estimated to save around ₹1 lakh per year by using solar pumps.”
The Prime Minister also outlined the government’s goal to enhance the country’s clean energy infrastructure. This includes linking all government buildings, schools, colleges, hospitals, and street lighting systems to solar energy.
In the last twelve years, over 44,000 government buildings across India have been connected to solar power, resulting in an annual savings of approximately ₹700 crores.
Modi also mentioned the progress of the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, launched in February 2024, which aims to install solar panels on the rooftops of one crore homes. “In the past 24-25 months, over 6.5 million families have engaged with this initiative,” he added.
Emphasizing India’s commitment to global climate goals, Modi noted that the country achieved its target of sourcing 50% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2025, five years ahead of the Paris Agreement deadline.
“Under the Paris Agreement, India pledged to obtain 50% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources. We achieved this goal in 2025, five years ahead of schedule. Today, over 50% of India’s installed electricity capacity comes from non-fossil fuel sources,” Modi concluded.
