Gujarat Government Introduces Nutritious Ready-to-Eat Snacks for TB Patients and Children

Gandhinagar, May 18: The Gujarat government has taken a significant step to enhance treatment under the ‘TB Free India Campaign.’ The state will now provide “ready-to-eat nutrition snacks” for adult TB patients weighing less than 42 kilograms and all children under the age of 14 for six months.

This announcement was made during a high-level review meeting held at Lok Bhavan. The meeting was attended by Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and senior officials, who reviewed TB control measures and future plans.

According to the state government, 100 new TrueNat machines will be purchased to ensure 100% NAA testing in talukas and the most affected districts during the 2026-27 period. Additionally, 333 portable hand-held X-ray machines will be deployed for door-to-door screening of suspected TB patients.

Addressing the meeting, Governor Acharya Devvrat emphasized that the TB elimination campaign in Gujarat must evolve into a public movement. He instructed officials to avoid any negligence in TB control and to raise awareness about the disease among the public. He also stressed the importance of promoting drug addiction awareness among TB patients.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel directed officials to ensure timely and effective treatment reaches every TB patient.

The government has reported that TB testing and treatment are available free of charge at all sub-health centers and government hospitals in the state. Currently, Gujarat operates 2,351 microscopy centers, three TB culture labs, 74 CBNAAT machines, and 386 TrueNat machines.

Officials from the Health and Family Welfare Department also presented information on future goals and preparations during the meeting.

The ‘TB Free India Campaign’ is a national initiative launched by the central government to eliminate tuberculosis across the country.
