Gandhinagar, 2 January – Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday handed appointment letters to over 4,700 newly selected employees of Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), including 3,084 drivers and 1,658 helpers.

This initiative provides a significant boost to the state’s public transport sector, aiming to strengthen connectivity and service delivery across Gujarat.

Addressing the new recruits, the Chief Minister described GSRTC drivers as “guardians of the state’s modern transport network” and emphasised their role in ensuring safe, timely, and reliable travel for citizens.

Patel stated that the government’s image reflects in the conduct and discipline of its bus drivers and helpers. He highlighted the importance of professionalism, physical fitness, and mental balance while on duty.

He added that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, even the remotest parts of the country have been connected with roads, electricity, water supply, health services, and bus services. The state government has modernised its transport fleet, replacing old vehicles with air-conditioned Volvo buses equipped with GPS tracking and other digital facilities, enabling citizens to monitor bus status via a mobile app.

The Chief Minister urged the new staff to maintain cleanliness and discipline, noting that India is progressing towards becoming a developed nation by 2047, with clean and efficient public transport playing a vital role in this goal.

He also inaugurated the new ‘Jan Sarathi Driving School’, an initiative aimed at professional driver training.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi praised the tireless efforts of government employees working round the clock in essential services such as transport, police, fire services, and electricity.

Sanghvi announced the state’s target to increase daily GSRTC bus passengers from the current 27 lakh to 30 lakh by 2027.
