Hong Kong, February 19: On the first day of the traditional Chinese New Year, Tsim Sha Tsui in Hong Kong was bustling with activity. A large number of citizens and tourists arrived early to participate in the “Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade,” organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
At 6 PM, the atmosphere was filled with joy as lion dances and street performances took center stage. The parade officially commenced around 8 PM, themed “New Year Beginnings, Fortune, and Happiness.” It featured 12 spectacular floats and 46 performance teams from Hong Kong, mainland China, Italy, France, and other regions.
In his address, Hong Kong’s Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu noted that approximately 50 million tourists visited Hong Kong last year. He emphasized that global appreciation for Hong Kong is a driving force behind the city’s continuous progress. Lee stated, “We will intensify our efforts to promote Hong Kong’s unique appeal among global travelers, highlight its authentic features, and position it as a top tourist destination.”
The parade began at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Plaza and proceeded along Canton Road. The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s float featured three horses, symbolizing the strength of the Year of the Horse. The Asia Tourism Exchange Centre’s float conveyed a message of national prosperity with the slogan “Hello China.” Additionally, the floats from the Macau and Hong Kong Tourism Boards showcased the cultural and tourism attractions of the Greater Bay Area.
Lee, a resident of Hong Kong who was witnessing the parade live for the first time, remarked, “The atmosphere at the event was even more exhilarating than what was shown on TV!” The parade concluded around 10 PM, marking the beginning of a bright future for Hong Kong in the Year of the Horse.
