Ujjain, September 24 (Daily Kiran) : The Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain witnessed a remarkable Bhasma Aarti on September 24, coinciding with the auspicious day of Trayodashi in the Bhadrapada month. Devotees flocked to the temple to witness this divine ritual.
Early Thursday morning, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets, following the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra. As the devotees caught their first glimpse of Baba Mahakal after the enchanting adornments and the Bhasma Aarti, the temple resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and sacred mantras.
The ritual commenced with the ceremonial bathing of Lord Mahakal, using Panchamrit—a blend of milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices—amidst the chanting of mantras. The first bell was rung to offer water, followed by a Kapoor Aarti, after which Baba adorned a crown. The Bhasma Aarti was performed with the accompaniment of traditional musical instruments, showcasing Baba Mahakal in his regal form, complete with a moon, Tripund, and Trident, embellished with yellow sandalwood.
The temple priests conducted the Mahaarati, drawing in a significant number of devotees eager to participate in the sacred event. Many had queued overnight to seek blessings from their beloved deity. During the Bhasma Aarti, men were required to wear traditional dhoti and women, sarees, in accordance with tradition.
According to custom, the Bhasma Aarti is offered to Baba Mahakal by the Mahanirvani Akhada. It is believed that after the offering of ash, Baba Mahakal manifests from the formless to the form, allowing devotees to experience his divine presence. The event attracted countless pilgrims to the holy city of Ujjain.
