New Delhi, September 24 (Daily Kiran) : A significant electric vehicle rally was launched in New Delhi on September 24, organized by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) in collaboration with JK Tyre. The event was flagged off by Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Harsh Malhotra. This initiative aims to raise awareness about road safety and promote green mobility among the youth.
Minister Malhotra emphasized that road safety is a major concern for the ministry and the public. He noted that adherence to traffic rules is essential for all road users. “Every year, around 450,000 road accidents occur in the country, resulting in approximately 170,000 fatalities, with 70% of the victims being under 35 years old,” he stated.
He also highlighted the ministry’s ongoing efforts to enhance road safety, mentioning the elimination of 14,000 black spots over the past year. “We are dedicated to ensuring that no black spots or dark spots remain on our roads,” he added.
The rally, featuring only electric vehicles, aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. Malhotra noted that the initiative by PHDCCI and JK Tyre focuses on increasing awareness about road safety, particularly among young people.
Dr. Ranjeet Mehta, Secretary General of PHDCCI, described the rally as a joint effort to promote youth safety, electric vehicles, and clean mobility. He pointed out that road safety should be the top priority for every young person venturing out. With over 400,000 road accidents annually, it’s crucial to educate the youth about safety and encourage them to become ambassadors for road safety.
During the campaign, the team plans to engage with 5,000 to 6,000 students from various colleges between Delhi and Chandigarh, promoting awareness about road safety and the importance of using electric vehicles. Dr. Mehta expressed gratitude to Minister Malhotra for supporting the electric vehicle rally.
