New Delhi, September 4 (Kiran News): Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi, on Thursday flagged off mobile vans of NCCF, NAFED and Kendriya Bhandar for the retail sale of onions at a subsidised price of ₹24 per kilogram.

According to a statement from the ministry, the retail sale of onions at this rate has started from today in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. With the launch of this initiative, targeted and balanced supplies from the government’s buffer stock have also begun to ensure consumers get onions at affordable prices.
Speaking at the event, Minister Joshi said the government is committed to the welfare of both farmers and consumers. He emphasised that controlling food inflation remains a top priority for the Centre.
He added that various price stabilisation measures and direct interventions have played a key role in reducing inflation in recent months. Retail inflation in July 2025 stood at 1.55%, the lowest in nearly eight years. The calibrated release of onions from the buffer stock, he said, is an integral part of the government’s efforts to check food inflation and maintain price stability.
