New Delhi, August 21: The Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Santosh Kumar Sarangi, announced on Friday that the government is working on a subsidy scheme for polysilicon, a crucial component used in solar panel manufacturing. However, he did not provide detailed information about the initiative.
This move aims to enhance domestic solar panel manufacturing in the country.
During a media interaction at a summit in the national capital, Sarangi mentioned that the government had previously introduced a Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for polysilicon components. Unfortunately, this scheme has not resulted in significant capacity development within the country. Consequently, the government is now focusing on a subsidy plan for polysilicon.
He refrained from sharing further details about the scheme, stating that it is still under development and that he is not in a position to disclose more information at this time.
In addition, Sarangi discussed floating solar projects, highlighting that a key requirement for project proposals is the preparation of a management plan before submitting the Detailed Project Report (DPR). This management plan will consider the local flora and fauna, water conditions, and the livelihood needs of fishermen who may depend on the area where the project is proposed.
Recently, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) launched a 100-megawatt floating solar project at the Getalsud Dam in Ranchi. They developed a comprehensive management plan to support the livelihoods of local fishermen. The initiative also promotes cage fisheries, providing better income opportunities for these fishermen.
Furthermore, the senior official stated that India is working to strengthen solar energy capacity by increasing investments in battery storage.
