Gorakhpur Mayor Joins Bicycle Rally to Raise Awareness for Childhood Cancer

Gorakhpur, March 22: Gorakhpur Mayor Mangalesh Kumar Srivastava announced that the Uttar Pradesh government is enhancing treatment facilities for children suffering from cancer. This initiative will allow affected children from the district and surrounding areas to receive care at BRD Medical College, as reported by an official on Saturday.

The official emphasized the commitment of the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government to improve health services. Srivastava highlighted the importance of recognizing early symptoms of childhood cancer and seeking medical assistance without delay.

As a senior vice president of the All India Mayor’s Council, Srivastava participated enthusiastically in a bicycle rally aimed at raising awareness about childhood cancer. The rally was part of the “Cycle for Gold” national initiative, which he flagged off, showcasing the government’s dedication to providing the best treatment for children in the state.

Supporting the rally, which covered over 12 lakh kilometers across 417 cities, Srivastava stated that when doctors, schools, cyclists, and citizens unite, it sends a powerful message that children battling cancer are not alone.

The BJP leader noted that this campaign, organized by CanKids, was launched on World Cancer Day (February 4) and is one of the largest charity cycling challenges.

The mayor joined cyclists, doctors, students, corporate representatives, and community members in Gorakhpur, where they cycled from BRD Medical College to Gorakhnath Temple.

Poonam Bagai, a member of the ICMR’s Central Human Research Policy Committee and WHO representative for Childhood Cancer International in the Southeast Asia region, stressed the need for collective efforts. She stated that this movement demonstrates the power of communities coming together for children fighting cancer.

Bagai, who is also the founder president of CanKids and vice president of Pallium India, mentioned that their efforts focus on improving childhood cancer care. They are establishing a statewide referral network for diagnosis and treatment, training health professionals and ASHA workers for early diagnosis, and providing financial and social support to families.
