Global AI Spending Set to Surge by 49.5% in 2026, Projected to Reach $2.7 Trillion

New Delhi, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : A recent report from Gartner forecasts that global spending on artificial intelligence (AI) will soar to $2.7 trillion by 2026, marking a staggering 49.5% increase from the previous year. The report highlights the persistent demand for infrastructure to support the growing needs of AI.

Despite rising costs associated with memory, there has been no significant reduction in spending on AI infrastructure. John-David Lovelock, a distinguished vice president analyst at Gartner, noted that building AI data center capacity has become one of the largest infrastructure projects in human history. He emphasized that investments in AI-optimized servers by hyperscale companies and service providers will continue to dominate spending.

The report also indicates a strong short-term outlook for AI application development platforms. Initial projections for a 28% growth in this sector for 2026 have been revised upwards to 39%. This increase is attributed to companies, software providers, and service firms focusing on developing custom AI applications tailored to their operational needs.

Organizations now seek assistance from service providers in managing costs and tracking usage within workflows to better measure the success of AI projects. There is also growing pressure on model developers to provide more cost-effective AI models, particularly those that meet the specific needs of various industries. This trend is creating a small but rapidly expanding opportunity for domain-specific language models (DSLM).

As a result, the estimated growth rate for generative AI models in 2026 has been raised from 110% to 117%. Lovelock pointed out that companies are increasingly relying less on service providers for large-scale business transformations. Instead, they are focusing more on smaller, targeted projects that leverage AI capabilities within their existing software systems.

According to the report, the combined impact of large transformational projects and indirect AI initiatives could create a $1.2 trillion opportunity in AI services by 2030. This suggests that in the coming years, AI will not only remain a field of technological investment but will also emerge as a significant driver of services, software development, consulting, and digital transformation.
