Lam Research to Invest ₹10,000 Crore in Semiconductor Manufacturing Facility in India

Bengaluru, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : Lam Research Corporation, a leader in semiconductor manufacturing equipment, has unveiled plans to invest approximately ₹10,000 crore in India over the coming years. This investment will establish the company’s first silicon component manufacturing facility in the country while expanding its advanced research and development (R&D) operations.

The announcement was made ahead of Semicon India 2026 and marks a significant step in Lam Research’s long-term expansion in India, where the company has been active for over 25 years. The proposed investment aims to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem and support global clients amid rising demand for increasingly complex semiconductor technologies, especially in the era of artificial intelligence.

The new manufacturing facility will support a vertically integrated process, including the production and processing of silicon ingots for advanced semiconductor technologies and cutting-edge nodes. Alongside manufacturing, Lam Research plans to enhance its R&D capabilities through its ‘India Center of Engineering.’ This center currently supports various global client programs in areas such as design, testing, validation, and next-generation technology development.

Rangesh Raghavan, Corporate Vice President and Managing Director of Lam Research India, emphasized that India is a crucial part of the company’s global innovation and growth strategy. He noted that the ongoing expansion reflects the company’s confidence in India’s talent, the rapidly evolving semiconductor ecosystem, and the collaborative policy environment.

Raghavan reiterated Lam Research’s commitment to working with government, academia, suppliers, startups, and other stakeholders to accelerate semiconductor innovation that benefits the global industry.

This investment is expected to create new partnership opportunities with Indian suppliers. Currently, Lam Research collaborates with local companies to supply essential materials, precision components, gases, chemicals, metrology solutions, and manufacturing services for semiconductor production.

The company stated that its expansion will bring specialized manufacturing expertise and capabilities to India, aiding in the development of skills necessary for the future of the semiconductor industry. It is anticipated that this investment will generate new opportunities in advanced engineering and high-tech manufacturing, contributing to the development of a globally competitive semiconductor workforce.

Lam Research’s plans in India build on the company’s existing workforce development initiatives. The company has partnered with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the India Semiconductor Mission to enhance access to semiconductor manufacturing education. Through its Semiverse Solutions virtual platform, the company aims to train up to 60,000 students over the next several years.
