New Confirm Ticket Rules by Indian Railways

Indian Railways will now cap waitlisted tickets at 25% of the total capacity in each train to control overcrowding and improve passenger convenience.
Applicable Across All Train Categories
The rule will apply to AC First Class, AC Second, AC Third, Sleeper, and Chair Car categories in trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Mail/Express, and Superfast.
Purpose of the New Rule
To provide greater clarity on ticket status and reduce the stress of uncertain confirmations for passengers.
Implementation Underway
Railway Board has issued a circular, and zonal railways have begun implementation of the new system.
Data on Ticket Confirmation
Railway data shows 20% to 25% of waiting tickets generally get confirmed before chart preparation, which informed this new limit.
Example of the New Cap
For a train with 1,000 seats, a maximum of 250 waitlist tickets will now be issued.
Previous Waiting Limit
Earlier limits (as per 2013 circular):
AC First Class – 30
AC Second – 100
AC Third – 300
Sleeper Class – 400
