G7 Summit: Zelensky Appeals for Peace with Russia Amid Leaders Meeting

New Delhi, June 16: At the G7 Summit in France, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised the support from G7 leaders regarding the Russia-Ukraine war and their suggestions for peace. He emphasized the importance of international cooperation during the conference.

Zelensky shared on the social media platform ‘X’, “Today, the first multilateral meeting session in the G7 format took place, which included Ukraine. I thank French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italy’s Council of Ministers Head Giorgia Meloni, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, US President Donald Trump, Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaiichi, European Council President Antonio Costa, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for their participation and strong suggestions to compel Russia towards peace.”

He stated that their priorities are clear, such as increasing the number of air defense missiles and providing licenses for their production, preparing a winter aid package, and strengthening pressure on Russia. It is crucial that the United States is ready to cooperate and support in all these areas.

Zelensky stressed the importance of implementing the discussed issues. “Russia must understand that this war can never return to normalcy. I thank everyone who is assisting in this effort.”

During the G7 Summit, US President Donald Trump also pressured Russia to reach a settlement to end the war. Trump remarked, “Russia should come to an agreement. Both Russia and Ukraine have lost many people. Last month, a total of 35,000 soldiers from both countries were killed. This is happening every month.”

He described the situation as madness, recalling a meeting he had with President Putin. “They are just fighting and losing soldiers. Nothing like this has happened since World War II. I have resolved eight wars. I thought this would be the easiest to solve. There is significant discord between the two leaders. However, I am scheduled to meet with him again later today.”
