New Delhi, August 13: In preparation for Independence Day, the Delhi Police will conduct a full dress rehearsal on Thursday. As a result, stringent security measures have been implemented across sensitive areas, borders, and around the Red Fort. Several routes have been closed, traffic has been diverted, and security checks have been intensified.
Additional police forces have been deployed on routes leading from Geeta Colony to the Red Fort and Jama Masjid. Barricades have been set up along the entire route, and thorough inspections of all incoming and outgoing vehicles are being conducted. The roads from ITO to the Red Fort and towards Raj Ghat have been completely closed off, as directed by the Delhi Traffic Police.
Security is particularly tight in the Shahdara district. DCP Rajendra Prasad Meena stated, “Today is the full dress rehearsal. Shahdara is a very sensitive area. From a border perspective, we have seven border points adjacent to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. Traffic has been completely halted at these points since 10 PM last night. We have established checkpoints throughout the district, including temporary ones.”
DCP Meena also mentioned that continuous patrolling is being conducted in areas behind the Red Fort, especially along the Yamuna Riverfront and Khadar regions. Both external forces and local staff are meticulously searching every part of the area to ensure no unauthorized individuals remain.
He added, “Regular patrols are being conducted on the Yamuna River, and this will continue until security arrangements conclude on August 15. We have deployed two boats to cover the jurisdictions of the Geeta Colony and Kali Nagar police stations. Additionally, all Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) are consistently patrolling their respective areas.”
In light of the upcoming August 15 celebrations, thorough checks are also being conducted on vehicles entering and exiting Delhi from the Noida border in Uttar Pradesh. Every vehicle is being stopped for document and baggage verification, with inquiries made if any suspicious activity is detected.
