France Issues Order to Release 10 Million Barrels of Gas Oil Amid Protests

In response to rising costs, Frances Prime Minister has ordered the release of 10 million barrels of gas oil, potentially reducing prices by 18 cents per liter.

Paris, October 24 (Daily Kiran) : In Paris, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced on Saturday a significant measure to ease the burden on citizens following recent violence and protests. In a post on the social media platform X, he revealed that the government has authorized the release of ten million barrels of gas oil. This decision is expected to lower gas oil prices.

Lecornu stated that these reserves will be made available at their purchase price, which is nearly four times lower than the current market rate. This could lead to a reduction of up to 18 cents per liter. The price cut is anticipated to take effect on November 1.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the full economic benefits of this initiative will be passed directly to consumers, reflecting in fuel prices. This measure will not only benefit everyday consumers but also those using non-road gas oil, the fishing industry, heating fuel oil, and gas oil utilized in foreign sectors. The aim is to reduce fuel costs and provide relief from escalating energy prices.

Last week, protests erupted across France in response to rising inflation and living costs, prompting the government to impose curfews in some areas. Following incidents of looting during the demonstrations, partial curfews were implemented, with authorities indicating that a state of emergency could be declared if necessary.

Since September, students in France have staged several major protests, calling for improved educational facilities and conditions. This latest development comes amid growing public discontent over inflation, fuel prices, education, and public services in the country.
