Mumbai, April 20: A significant incident occurred at Panvel Railway Station in Navi Mumbai on Monday. A lift on platform number 7 suddenly malfunctioned and fell, causing chaos at the station. At the time of the accident, four passengers were trapped inside the lift. Emergency teams and railway officials quickly arrived at the scene and began efforts to safely rescue all passengers.
Following the incident, fear and concern spread among those present at the station. Passengers raised questions about how such a major oversight could happen, especially since lifts are essential for elderly, women, and differently-abled travelers at railway stations. This has naturally raised serious safety concerns. Currently, rescue operations are ongoing, and the situation is being monitored closely.
In another related incident, a local train associated with Mumbai’s Central Railway derailed near Dombivli Station. According to reports, a coach from an empty local train traveling from Kalwa car shed to Kalyan derailed at approximately 8:09 AM.
Central Railway officials confirmed that the train was empty at the time of the incident, resulting in no casualties. However, this derailment has affected train operations, with three local trains on the upward line halted midway, causing some inconvenience for passengers.
The railway administration promptly dispatched a technical team to remove the derailed coach and restore normalcy to the track as soon as possible. An investigation has also been initiated to determine the cause of the derailment. Train services between Kopar and Kalyan on the down line will remain suspended on Monday.
