Former Unit 731 Member Reveals Details on Biological Weapons Production

Beijing, February 1 – The Museum of Evidence on Crimes Committed by Japan’s Unit 731 against China released a video testimony from a former member on January 31.

The 47-minute video features Hideo Sato, an employee of Unit 731’s “Takahashi Team” (Plague Squad). He provides detailed accounts of the cultivation of plague bacteria, animal dissections, and human experiments. These revelations offer further undeniable proof of the inhumane atrocities committed by the Japanese army during its invasion of China.

Jin Shicheng, Director of the Promotion, Education, and Exhibition Department of the museum, stated that Hideo Sato, born in 1927, served in Unit 731 from 1942 to 1945. In the video, Sato describes this dark chapter of history.

Sato explained that the “Takahashi Team” conducted “disinfection work” as a cover for live dissections, which included small animals infected with plague. Their main task was to verify the lethal doses and mortality rates of the plague bacteria through animal testing. The objective of these studies was to turn the plague bacteria into a weapon.

He further revealed that human experiments were conducted in a specially constructed, high-security prison building, which was the core area of Unit 731. Only experienced experts were allowed to perform experiments on living humans, and young team members like himself were not eligible. Jin Shicheng noted that this information confirms the strict hierarchical system within Unit 731 and the high level of secrecy surrounding its criminal activities.

Hideo Sato also admitted to the production of biological weapons by Unit 731.
