Former DGCA Official Urges Caution Before Concluding Ajit Pawar Plane Crash Cause

New Delhi: The nation mourns the tragic death of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who died in a plane crash on Wednesday morning. Reacting to the incident, former Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) flight operations inspector Prashant Dhalla emphasised that it would be premature to draw any conclusions before the investigation is complete.

Dhalla clarified that the Learjet-45 aircraft involved in the crash is considered a safe plane, and the pilots operating it were highly experienced. He expressed his condolences and called the event extremely unfortunate.

Sharing technical details, Dhalla said the aircraft had departed from Mumbai en route to Baramati airport and was operated by the reputed VSR Ventures. The plane had previously completed many successful flights, indicating no concerns about its technical reliability.

He identified the pilots as Captain Kapoor and co-pilot Captain Pathak, both senior and seasoned aviators who also lost their lives in the accident. Dhalla noted that causes of such crashes can include human error, pilot mistakes, technical malfunctions, or adverse weather conditions, all of which require thorough investigation.

At the time of the accident, visibility was reported to be over 2,000 metres, making it inaccurate to attribute the crash solely to low visibility. According to available information, the plane attempted to land on the runway but aborted the landing due to difficulties and took off again for a second attempt. Unfortunately, it could not land safely and crashed.

Dhalla added that the Baramati airport runway is quite long and is frequently used by flying clubs and private chartered aircraft.

He concluded, “The investigation will reveal what exactly went wrong. It is too soon to say anything definitively. The Learjet-45 is regarded as a safe aircraft, and the pilots were very senior. What happened is very unfortunate and deeply saddening.”
