Kolkata, 23 January: Just ahead of the West Bengal elections, Khardah BJP MLA and Bengali film actor Hiran Chatterjee has come under the spotlight. Recently, pictures of his wedding with model Ritika Giri went viral on social media. The photographs showed the couple getting married in traditional rituals at the Ganga ghat in Varanasi.
Following the emergence of these pictures, Hiran Chatterjee’s first wife created a stir. Consequently, the Kolkata Police registered an FIR at Anandapur Police Station against Hiran Chatterjee and Ritika Giri.
The complaint alleges that Hiran Chatterjee married Ritika without obtaining a divorce from his first wife, Anindita Chatterjee. Anindita has accused Hiran of subjecting her to mental and physical harassment over the years, with Ritika allegedly supporting his behaviour. She stated that she endured the actions for a long time but maintained silence to protect her daughter and family.
Anindita revealed that she married Hiran on 11 December 2000 and they have a 19-year-old daughter. The FIR claims that Hiran Chatterjee’s second marriage without legally separating from Anindita is unlawful. It also states that Hiran and Ritika did not disclose his existing marriage at the time of their wedding.
Expressing her distress, Anindita said she was deeply hurt to learn that her husband had remarried without a divorce. She also pointed out that Ritika Giri is only two years older than their daughter, making it difficult for her to accept this relationship.
On the other hand, Ritika Giri has defended her position, stating that Anindita was aware of her relationship with Hiran. She confirmed the legality of their marriage, which took place according to traditional customs in the presence of sacred fire at the Ganga ghat in Varanasi. Ritika added that all information was publicly available on their social media accounts, and nothing was hidden.
She further mentioned that the wedding pictures were originally shared by Hiran but were removed once the controversy escalated.
