West Indies Call Up Aamir Jangoo for T20 Series Against India

New Delhi, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : The West Indies have added wicketkeeper-batsman Aamir Jangoo to their squad for the upcoming five-match T20 International series against India. Jangoo steps in for Jewel Andrew, who sustained an injury during the ODI series.

Andrew hurt his finger while catching a ball during the 36th over of the third ODI on Saturday at the new PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh. Following the incident, he was taken to the hospital for an X-ray. Cricket West Indies confirmed Jangoo’s inclusion, stating, “Aamir Jangoo has been called up for the wicketkeeping role after Jewel Andrew’s injury during the third ODI. The medical team is monitoring Andrew’s condition.”

Andrew did not bat in the third ODI, with Shai Hope opening the innings alongside John Campbell. Since making his international debut in December 2024, Jangoo has played seven T20 Internationals for the West Indies, maintaining an average performance with a strike rate of 120.74, accumulating 163 runs. He showcased impressive form in the ODI series against India, scoring unbeaten 58, 114, and 67 runs, ranking third among the series’ top scorers, behind Shai Hope (278 runs) and Shubman Gill (334 runs).

The first T20 International between India and the West Indies is scheduled for Tuesday at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. In the history of T20 matches between the two teams, India has won 20 out of 31 encounters, while the West Indies have claimed victory in 10, with one match ending in a no-result.
