Mumbai, August 16: Three prominent Bollywood actors are facing scrutiny over an advertisement. The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a show cause notice to Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Tiger Shroff for endorsing Vimal Pan Masala.
The FDA’s notice states that the actors must respond within 15 days under Section 24 of the Consumer Protection Act. The FDA has also directed them to remove the advertisement from social media, warning that failure to comply could lead to further action.
In its letter, the FDA emphasized that Section 24 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, prohibits misleading advertisements and unfair trade practices. It also restricts advertisements that violate the provisions of the Act and its associated rules. Notably, an advertisement related to ‘Vimal Cardamom’ is still circulating across various media platforms.
Previously, the FDA suspended the licenses of 16 hotels, restaurants, e-commerce, and dairy establishments in the state as part of its ‘Safe Food, Safe Drug, Safe Maharashtra’ campaign. This list includes major names from Pune, Lonavala, Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur.
The most severe action by the FDA was against Hotel Sayaji, operated by Messrs Fortune Enterprises in Lonavala. An inspection on August 12 revealed expired food items and serious violations of Schedule IV regulations related to food safety. These infractions led to the suspension of the hotel’s license.
It is important to note that the Maharashtra government’s FDA serves as the primary regulatory authority in the state, ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of food products, drugs, and cosmetics. Operating under the Medical Education and Drugs Department, the FDA is responsible for enforcing several critical laws.
