Faisal Shinozada’s Record-Breaking 163 in U-19 World Cup Super Six

Harare: Afghan batter Faisal Shinozada made history in the Under-19 World Cup by scoring a remarkable 163 runs against Ireland in the Super Six stage. Facing 142 balls, Shinozada hit 18 boundaries and one six, showcasing an outstanding innings that set a new record for Afghanistan in the tournament’s one-day format.

Shinozada surpassed the previous highest Under-19 World Cup score by an Afghan, Karim Janat, who scored 156 runs off 132 balls against Fiji on February 5, 2016. Janat’s innings included six sixes and twelve fours.

On a global level, Viran Chamuditha holds the record for the highest individual score in the Under-19 World Cup, with 192 runs made on January 17, 2026, against Japan. Chamuditha’s innings featured 26 fours and a six. Hasitha Boyagoda and Ben Angus Mayes share the second spot with individual scores of 191 runs each.

The match, played at the Harare Sports Club, saw Afghanistan bat first after winning the toss. The team posted a total of 315 runs for seven wickets in the allotted overs.

Afghanistan lost two early wickets at 27 runs, with openers Usman Sadat (14) and Khalid Ahmadzai (1) returning to the pavilion. Faisal Shinozada then built a crucial 75-run partnership for the third wicket with Uzairullah Niazi, helping the team cross the century mark. Niazi scored 26 runs before getting out.

Following Niazi’s dismissal, Shinozada joined captain Mahboob Khan and together they added 188 runs in 157 balls, pushing the team’s score to 290. Shinozada was eventually dismissed after scoring 163 runs, leaving Mahboob Khan to carry forward the innings.

Captain Mahboob Khan played an aggressive innings of 89 runs off 79 balls, including two sixes and five fours, to guide Afghanistan past the 300-run mark.

From the Ireland bowling attack, Ruben Wilson and Oliver Riley took three wickets each, while Thomas Ford claimed one wicket.
