Erani and Vavassori Claim Mixed Doubles Title at French Open

Paris, June 4: In an exciting final at the French Open, Sara Erani and Andrea Vavassori triumphed over Gabriela Dabrowski and Ivan King with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 10-4. This victory marks the duo as the first to win back-to-back French Open mixed doubles titles since 2019.

The match, held on Court Philippe-Chatrier, was fiercely contested. The top-seeded Italian pair initially fell behind but made a strong comeback, securing the win in just 1 hour and 19 minutes.

Playing in brisk winds, Erani and Vavassori faced a tough challenge from their opponents right from the start. Dabrowski and King quickly adapted to the conditions, taking an early lead and capturing the first set. However, the momentum shifted after the sides changed.

Responding with increased aggression and consistency, Erani and Vavassori dominated the second set, pushing their opponents onto the back foot. Once they reached the decisive championship tiebreak, the reigning champions wasted no time. They took an early lead and denied Dabrowski and King any chance of a comeback.

Ultimately, they converted their first championship point, adding another significant victory to their records and maintaining their unbeaten streak in Grand Slam mixed doubles finals.

This win is another milestone in Erani’s illustrious career. The 39-year-old now boasts a total of 10 Grand Slam titles across women’s and mixed doubles, while Vavassori has secured his fourth mixed doubles Grand Slam title alongside his compatriot.
